Swimsuit Addition

It's not difficult to see why Swimsuit Addition is on the up-and-up. Their style is reminiscent of the early 90s riot grrl spearheaded by west-coast bands like Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill, updated in style and subject matter for the 2010s. While the quartet embraces the raw directness of punk and power pop, they tend to ditch the genres’ simple structures to create three-minute songs that continually develop and build in surprising ways.

The pointed lyrics on their CSC single deliver commentary on social issues without being preachy, through personal reflection and irreverence. The A-side, Atheist, describes the struggle of being a non-believer amongst the religious, refuting the question “am I the only one?” with an uplifting gang-vocal response “not here!” The lyrics for Tiara condemn the exploitative and damaging nature of the reality show Toddlers and Tiaras.

Keep an eye on this band - with only one EP under their belt and an energetic live set, their music is already getting lots of love from all over Chicago.
