Radar Eyes

Radar Eyes’ melting pot of influences seems ready to overflow; their sound reflects a reverence for rock styles spanning the past six decades. They combine the darker strains of late 80s new wave and post-punk with 60s psychedelic rock, with hints of more modern sub-genres like shoegaze or its noisier, more provocative lo-fi little sibling shitgaze. Though their sonic explorations can be noisy and unpredictable, their songs are always anchored in familiar rock progressions and grooves.

The intertwining riffs from guitarists Anthony Cozzi and Russ Calderwood are highlights of the songs, ranging from aggressive to atmospheric. The two alternately play off each other’s melodies and meld together in a blur of distorted analog delay and deep phase effects. Cozzi’s clean-toned and lyrical vocals hang around the low end of his tenor range, at times giving the music an intense and unsettling vibe. The band’s excellent rhythm section consisting of bassist Lucas Sikorski and drummer Nithin Kalvakota keeps their grooves simple yet effective; they are the driving foundation that keeps the band connected to their garage rock roots.

The two songs Radar Eyes recorded with CSC, River Run and Nico (named for the Velvet Underground collaborator), show off the band’s range of sounds and influences.
